4 Surprising Tips From An Old School Bodybuilding Legend
If you're not exactly blessed in the genetics department, but you still want to work out to build an amazing body, you're in for a treat with these surprising tips from an old school bodybuilding legend. We're talking about Vince Gironda - the man behind many of the great physiques of Hollywood's who's who of the 60's, 70's and 80's.
Back then, when a film project needed a ripped actor, they send the guy to Vince Gironda's Gym. His clientele included Gary Busey, Eric Estrada, Burt Reynolds, George Hamilton and Clint Eastwood. Like if that wasn't enough, he was also Arnold Schwarzenegger's first trainer!
So what were some of his secrets?
The Hormone Precursor Shake
You might have seen this in a movie or TV show. To make this workout shake, just crack some eggs in a glass, mix and drink, it's that simple. This was one of Gironda's favorite nutritional hacks to build mass. He called this the Hormone Precursor Shake.
Mix the following (original recipe):
· 12 pieces of eggs
· 12 ounces of half-and-half
· 1/3 cup of milk-and-egg powder
Add a banana for taste if you are not currently restricting carbs.
What is this concoction for?
Hard gainers stand to gain a lot with this drink. It delivers a serious amount of proteins and fats needed for building muscle. Just imagine how much nutrients you get. Twelve eggs will give you about 72 grams of proteins and 60 grams of fats. That would be equivalent of 2 to 2.5 scoops of whey protein but the fat content would only be 6.25 grams of fats. When you build muscles, you need both proteins and fats. Eggs deliver more than these two macronutrients. They are also chock-full of vitamins and minerals such as folic acid, vitamin A, selenium, B vitamins and phosphorus, to name a few. It is an excellent source of nutrients for those seeking to build mass. This shake was consumed 1-3 times per day in-between meals.
The Anabolic Superfood: Raw Eggs
Anabolism is one process you absolutely want to trigger if you want to gain lean muscle mass. It's the body's natural building process. To drive anabolism, you have to supply the body with the needed raw materials - proteins and fats. Yes, the same ones you can get in large amounts from eggs.
Raw eggs are an excellent anabolic food. It has all the essential amino acids that the body can use to build muscle. They are also rich in healthy fatty acids that act as precursors in testosterone production. These fatty acids are called CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), and eggs is an premiere source. CLA is a type of fat that has numerous health benefits. It helps promote anabolism, as well as hormonal balance.
Liver Tablets
Gironda strongly believed in going all natural. He did not use artificial steroids for building muscle. Instead, the only supplement he advocated was the use of liver tablets. These are all natural whole food supplement that are shock full of nutrients.
Liver tablets in-between meals help keep your body in a positive nitrogen balance. They help slow down the breakdown process (catabolism) that can result in losing any muscles gained. This process often happens after intense workouts, when the muscles are recovering. Liver is also the most nutrient dense food on the planet!
Semen Retention
Another unique old school method is semen retention. That means no ejaculation for periods of time.
This method helps to retain energy and can boost testosterone after a week of abstaining. Ejaculation uses up a lot of energy. It also releases a considerable amount of essential nutrients. The optimal window to abstain is 1-2 weeks.
This was practiced by the top boxer, David Haye. According to him:
"Find a lion that hasn't had some food for a while, and you've got yourself one dangerous cat. I don't ejaculate for six weeks before the fight. No sex, no masturbation, no nothing.
It releases too much tension. It releases a lot of minerals and nutrients that your body needs, and it releases them cheaply. Releasing weakens the knees and your legs.
Even in my sleep - if there are girls all over me in my dream, I say to them, I've got a fight next week, I can't do anything. I can't do it. That's control.
I've been doing that since I was fifteen and its part and parcel of my preparation now. That's why I am who I am today - it's down to all those little sacrifices. Find me another boxer who makes that sacrifice, and you'll find yourself another champion."
Conclusion
The Old School, natural ways have stood the test of time and are still effective. Gironda had an impressive roster of clients to his belt as proof. These surprising tips from an old school bodybuilding legend are worth trying. Add some testosterone boosting foods to the mix and soon you will be seeing some great results.
